![]() The Price of Sugar
Q&A to follow with filmmaker Eric Grunebaum.
90 min Documentary Feature In the Dominican Republic, tourists flock to pristine beaches unaware that a few miles away, thousands of dispossessed Haitians work under armed-guard on plantations harvesting sugarcane, much of which ends up in U.S. homes. Narrated by Paul Newman, The Price of Sugar follows Father Hartley, a charismatic priest, as he organizes the Haitian workers to fight for their basic human rights. This documentary raises key questions about where the products the U.S. consumes originate, at what human cost they are produced, and more importantly, where our responsibility lies, as individual consumers.
